Blockchain-based Token Marketplace

Function

Blockchain-based marketplace that enables the tokenization and trading of carbon credits within the framework of the European Carbon Removal Certification Framework (CRCF). The platform integrates smart contracts to manage project certification, auditing, and credit transactions, ensuring transparency, efficiency, and compliance with regulatory standards. It leverages the ERC-20 standard for payments and the ERC-721 standard for non-fungible carbon credit tokens. The system includes distinct roles such as Operators, Certification Schemes, Certification Bodies, Central Offset Registry, and Buyers, ensuring a structured and verifiable carbon credit trading process.

It contributes to Farms4Climate providing a decentralized and transparent platform for carbon credit certification and trading. It allows small-scale farmers and agri-food businesses to quantify, certify, and commercialize their carbon capture efforts, aligning with EU climate goals.

Utility

The marketplace provides a digital infrastructure for managing carbon credit projects, verifying emission reductions, and facilitating transparent trading. The platform enables geospatial data integration to connect additional information about land properties, soil conditions, and carbon sequestration potential, enhancing the credibility and accuracy of carbon credits.

Beneficiaries:

  • Operators (Farmers, Landowners, Carbon Project Developers): Implement sustainable carbon capture practices and produce carbon credits.
  • Certification Schemes: Define methodologies, approve projects, and accredit Certification Bodies.
  • Certification Bodies: Audit projects, certify carbon credits, and ensure compliance with CRCF standards.
  • Central Offset Registry: Maintains a secure registry and marketplace for carbon credits, ensuring traceability and preventing double counting.
